1. Were there any rituals in your home that happened every year? If so, what were they and how did you feel about them?

2. Peter had a vision where God told him to eat foods that Peter believed were absolutely not allowed for him to eat. If you were in Peter's place and God wanted to ask you in a vision to do something you would never dream of doing, what would it be?

3. Why do you think God chose to send Peter to Cornelius' house?

4. Why do you think the Holy Spirit made his presence known in these Gentile believers before Peter had even baptized them? (Acts 10:44-48)

5. This story is all about God's Spirit breaking down barriers between people. Are there any barriers you can identify in your life, now or in the past, that have kept you from reaching out to certain people?

1. Have you ever encountered a person you initially admired but eventually came to see as a hypocrite? What clued you in? What impact did that have on you?

2. In the case of Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11), the cost of hypocrisy was severe. Why do you think God dealt with them in such an extreme way?

3. What kinds of hypocrisy could creep into our church? What should you do if you see hypocrisy in a fellow believer?

4. How can you guard against hypocrisy in your own life?

1. Have you ever been the recipient of radical generosity? What happened? What effect did it have on you?

2. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit had all sorts of effects on the early church. Why do you think Luke focuses on generosity (Acts 4:32)?

3. Have you ever known someone personally that deserves the name "Barnabas" (Acts 4:36)? What did they do?

4. In Acts 4:33, Luke says, "...grace was on them all." What do you think that means? What would it look like in our context?

1. As a child or a teen, do you recall a time when you were clearly at fault but tried really hard to deny it? What happened?

2. Are all miracles signs? Are signs always miracles? If not, how would you explain the difference?

3. Do you find it easy or hard to admit fault? Why? How does that impact your relationship with God?

4. What would have happened to the lame man if he had not believed Peter's words? Some people have a hard time believing God's forgiveness. What is the consequenece of that?

1. Have you ever tried the sport of Curling? How does Pastor Tim think it connects to the book of Acts? Do you agree or disagree?

2. Jesus talked constantly about the kingdom of God (Acts 1:3). The disciples worried about the kingdom of Israel (Acts 1:6). What was the difference? What lessons for our time can you draw from Acts 1:7-8?

3.Why do you think Jesus made a point of visibly ascending to heaven while the disciples watched? Why didn’t he just disappear?

4Have you ever faced a major decision where you knew you needed God’s guidance? What was your decision-making process? What happened and what did you learn?

"If Jesus Had a Fruit Stand" - Gentleness - Tim Richards - Week 8

Pastor Tim Richards continues the series, "If Jesus Had a Fruit Stand," from Galatians 5:22-23, looking at Gentleness. 

Sermon Questions:

1. How do you spot a good watermelon? What, according to Pastor Tim, does that have to do with Galatians 5:22-23?

2. Based on what you know about the Apostle Paul, how would you describe his natural temperament? How does yours compare to his?

3. Paul regularly advised gentleness when dealing with difficult people (look up Galatians 6:1-3, Ephesians 4:1-3, 2 Timothy 2:24-25, Titus 3:1-3). In what types of situations do you find it difficult to exercise gentleness? Why? 

4. Thinking about those times when gentleness is difficult, can you identify things you may wrongly believe about yourself, God or others that cause you to respond harshly? What steps do you think the Holy Spirit might be asking of you to counteract those beliefs?
